One. More. Week.
It’s hard to believe that Christmas is only a week away. The real question is are you ready for 2016? Too soon? Well I guess we need to get through the holidays first and enjoy the ever-so-wonderful cookies, pies and endless sweets before we make our impossible New Year’s resolutions.
Everyone has their own unique and special Christmas and holiday traditions. My family always meets at my parent’s house and we exchange gifts on Christmas morning and enjoy my mom’s amazing Southern feast that evening. Family time is happy time and a bit of chaotic madness. But who doesn’t have a crazy family?
What is more crazy about Christmastime this year is the weather. It has been absolutely beautiful and warm. It almost feels wrong. While visiting New York City last week, I enjoyed wearing short sleeves and going on walks through the busy city. Everyone seemed to be out-and-about running, walking, biking, etc. The locals couldn’t believe how nice it was. It’s weird seeing the wonderful lights and sights of the holidays with a bit of a sweat coming on. December is supposed to be cold. Winter begins this month, after all.
Besides seeing the wonderful decor, the holidays are when family and friends come together and eat. I may be bias, but my mom is the absolute best cook. Christmas dinner is always on point and there are a few cookies that she bakes each year that are to die for. Do you know the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey Kiss in the middle? Yup, she makes those and they are amazing.
By now your tree should be up, stockings hung and decorations on display. It has always been a tradition of mine to drive around the “really nice” neighborhoods and see all of their over-the-top decorations and lights. Some people really like to get into it. If you make it over to the South Carolina coast this holiday season, you really need to check it out. Palmetto trees covered in lights is the best.
