Memorial Day, a federal holiday to commemorate the fallen men and women who served in our country’s military service, will be observed Monday, May 27.
You may pay tribute to those U.S. men and women who died during military service by observing a national moment of remembrance with a minute of silence at 3 p.m. local time.

Memorial Day weekend is also traditionally recognized as the kick off to summer. And what better place to do so than on our sunny South Carolina coast. As the temperature climbs into the 80s, we’re ready to slip into our bathing suits and hit the waves for some summer fun. But that’s not all there is for this upcoming weekend. Check out some of these activities weekend activities:
Saturday, May 25 | There’s no better way to kick off Memorial Day weekend than with the Military Appreciation Days Parade. This year, the parade will take place at the site of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, now The Market Common. Festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. Following the parade will be a family picnic style gathering with music and exhibits to check out at the Valor Memorial Garden.
Sunday, May 26 | Pack up the golf cart and head down to Surfside for the annual Surfside Beach Memorial Day Golf Cart Parade. This unique event takes place from 1-2 p.m. at 16th Avenue North and Dogwood Drive where hundreds of golf carts will line up to kick off the parade route. Golf carts should be decorated with patriotic themes. Whether or not you plan on driving around yourself, this is a sight not to be missed.
Monday, May 27 | Watch on as veterans join together for the Memorial Day Veterans March beginning at 9 a.m. at 16th Avenue North and continuing through Ninth Avenue North. After the march, there will be a remembrance ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Following this, you can make your way to Grand 14 Cinemas to enjoy a tribute film at 1 p.m.
The weekend is sure to be packed with sunshine and lots of activities in honor of those who died while serving our country.
