Jazz Nights at Travinia Italian Kitchen in Myrtle Beach

The weekend is nearing and this one is looking to be quite nice, with temperatures reaching the 70s during the day and 60s at night. Not too shabby!

The Myrtle Beach Market Common is a great place for strolling, shopping and dining, and if you’re looking for a real weekend treat, I suggest you hit up Travinia Italian Kitchen. Both urban and traditional, Travinia represents the best of both worlds in Italian cuisine. You can sample favorites such as Lasagna Bolognese and Antipasti alongside such new classics as Sinatra Chicken (chicken breast topped with smoked pancetta, mozzarella cheese & a Grand Marnier cream sauce with pasta). They have a nice sized bar, great for sampling small plates and Travinia-created cocktails, plus a very extensive selection of wine; if you’re a red zinfandel fan, try the Layer Cake Primativo. It’s a GREAT wine.

Friday here is the real standout, as it is jazz night. From 8-11 pm, local favorite U-N-I Elegant Jazz and Blues performs an array of classics that is a perfect compliment to the relaxed, contemporary atmosphere. They have a setlist, but like any good jazz establishment, they are flexible. The last time I was there, Nancy, a lovely lady sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in truly amazing form, which was followed by impromptu performances of individuals singing harmony and acapella versions of everything from beach music to Motown. This is a great place to mingle and people watch, but be sure to make reservations at least a few days in advance, or be prepared to stand, because it’s a packed house.
